How technology will reshape the workplace of tomorrow

MYOB chief technology officer Simon Raik-Allen shares his view on the workplace of tomorrow:

Our current clumsy video conferences will be replaced by holograph visions of the people we are talking two.
The message of Princess Leia conveyed via holograph in Star Wars will be duplicated as a live experience.
There will be no need to travel long distances for personal contact.

This change in work patterns will see a dramatic upsurge in local communities — the village is coming back. Walking to work will return. Communities will generate much of their own power and sell surplus into a grid. That will require major changes to power infrastructure. This emphasis on localism will add impetus to the drive to have local communities become involved in their own infrastructure.
